Resolutions, version 2013

Tonight, as I try to check off those pesky items on my to-do list, I thought I should write a blog post. It’s been on the list since the end of 2012! I don’t have much time, I’m really tired, and I want to check off other things tonight still, so I thought I’d just write a resolution update. But then I realized I had never even written a resolution post! So even though most people have probably already forgotten their’s (no judgement!), here are mine:

1. Read the entire Bible in one year. I’m so happy to say that my husband is working on this one with me, and he is probably the only reason I’ve continued on this one so far. Working through Leviticus and Numbers is enough to make anyone want to quit!

2.Lose 10 pounds. Last year I almost made my resolution to lose 15 and lost 10. If I had made it, this year’s would have only been 5! OK, that’s not true. What’s the point of a “Lose 5 pounds” resolution??

3. Potty Train Audrey. Guess what? This one is a big CHECK! Well, at least the hard part is done. Now it’s just fine-tuning…

4. Read/listen to 20 books. I have absolutely no idea how I did on this one last year, except to say that if I made it, it’s all due to I love being able to listen to books while I walk, cook, or crochet!

5. Post on this blog at least once a month. Similar to every other year except this year I’m going to say that “phoning it in” is allowed. I hope to write a substantive post once in a while, but sometimes there just isn’t time!

6. Be a breath of fresh air. (I always have to throw in one of these abstract, hard-to-quantify resolutions!) I’ve been reading the Bible in The Message version, because I feel like it’s made the Bible come alive in a way that I’ve never experienced with the NIV. And Philippians 2:14-16 mentions that we should be a “breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society” by being cheerful and joyful. This is a constant challenge and one I fail at everyday. But I am trying to focus on the good and be joyful, and not always be complaining.
