Sankranti

Today is also a holiday in India, the national festival of Sankranti.  You can read about it more here.  What we found fun about the day, however, (besides Ryan getting the day off) were the kites that could be seen flying high all around the city (Sankranti is also celebrated as Kite Flying Day).  They were up so high that at first I wasn’t sure if they were kites or birds.  I spent some time watching a man on the rooftop across from us while he was flying his kite.  He seemed very skilled at it.

Here are a couple pics.  They aren’t the best, but like I said, the kites were so high, it was hard to capture them on the camera!

  1. I wish I had taken these pictures earlier in the day, when it was sunny and when there were so many more kites!

  2. It makes me think of the book The Kite Runner. The kids loved to fly kites in Afghanistan and it made it sound like so much fun. Were the kites very colorful? It’s hard to see much of them in the pictures.
